Australian
Frilled Dragons
(Chlamydosaurus kingii)
|
My
breeders produce 'reds', which are often referred
to as coming from Northern Territory locales.
They show earth-tone colorations: reds, yellows,
rusts, browns,oranges. More importantly,..my
breeders are exceptionally larger than the other
locales in the US. Max is nearly 3 feet long
and has a frill measuring over 12" across. DeeDee
is over 26" long and her frill is about
9" across.
I want to clarify that my breeders are not 'silvers',..which
are often referred to as coming from Queensland
locales. Most frilled dragons in the US that
show strong mainland characteristics (large
size, larger frill, white cheeks, etc) tend to
decend from the 'silver' "Queensland"
bloodlines, which, in the US, have been heavily
crossed to various different New Guinea bloodlines.
I have spent 8 years searching for the largest,
non-silver Aussies in an attempt to produce
the earth-tone "Northern Territory"
colorations. The Australian babies produced
in 2006 and 2007 represent my very-best attempt
at producing true Australians that show red.

Crested
Geckos (Rhacodactylus
ciliatus)
Crested
geckos come from New Caledonia (a large island east of Australia)
and have quickly become one of the most popular and sought-after
geckos in the reptile market. With a face that makes even
the most-macho of men say, "that's cute", and a
quirky personality to-boot, it's easy to see why. To make
things even more interesting, several different morphs of
crested geckos are now being bred and there is an number of
different patterns and colors to choose from. Crested geckos
prefer cool temperatures and moderate-to-high humidity. Like
other nectar-loving geckos, cresteds enjoy fruit babyfood,
fresh fruit, yogurt and other fruity concoctions. Cresteds
also eat crickets, which serves as a source for protein. Baby
cresteds especially need a lot of crickets when they are growing.
If kept in proper condtions, crested geckos are usually very
hardy. Many crested geckos will become very docile if they
are gently handled periodically.

Gargoyle
Geckos (Rhacodactylus auriculatus)
The
Rhacodactylus genus has many species that make interesting
and hardy pets. Gargoyle geckos are a popular choice for beginners
and experts alike. Properly-bred gargoyle geckos can be very
hardy and live longer than 15 years,...IF they are given the
proper conditions.
Like their 'pop-culture'
cousins the crested geckos,... Gargoyles also come in a variety
of color and morphs. Unlike their crested cousins, gargoyles
are normally quite anti-social and should not be housed together
except on a very limited basis. If gargoyles are forced to
live together,... social stress and fighting are usually inevitable
and can result in severe trauma.
Overall these geckos make great pets and,..other than their
need for seclusion,..can be cared-for just like crested geckos.
Gargoyles do have a propensity to eat more crickets. I also
suggest feeding some type of gecko diet (mixed with fruit
babyfood) at least twice per week.

Leopard
Geckos (Eublepharis

Hoping to produce RAPTORs, APTORs, SHTCTs, Sunglows, Tremper
Albinos, Striped-Hypo-tangerines, old-school high-yellows
and more.

Fat-tail
Geckos (Hemitheconyx

Very docile geckos. Hoping to produce striped het-albinos
and normals.

Standing's
Day Geckos
(Phelsuma standingi)
|
While standingi lack the intense
coloration that many of the other Day Geckos display,...they
could the hardiest of the phelsuma genus. Male standingi
are also amongst the largest geckos in the world and
can grow up to 12-inches in length. If given proper
conditions, life-expectancy in captivity can exceed
15 years. Standingi come from
an arid part of Madagascar, which could account for
their relatively subtle coloration and increased hardiness.
These geckos show remarkable social
bonds and behavior. Now in their 3rd year of breeding,
my 5-year-old pair takes turns watching-over their incubating
eggs and has even 'employed' a yearling son to help
guard the eggs and hatchlings!
The breeders come from unrelated high-blue "Leapin'
Lizard" stock. If kept under extremely bright conditions
and given the the proper diet,... this bloodline of
standingi will show an intense blue coloration.
I recommend feeding a Day Gecko diet (mixed with peach
babyfood and water) 2-3 times per week. Crickets are
the staple insect,..but mealworms and superworms are
relished.

Dumerils
Boas
(Acrantophis dumerili)
|
Kenyan
Sand Boas (Eryx
colubrinus loveridgei)
Very small, interesting, and low-maintenance boas. Their thick,
muscled bodies, tiny eyes and chisel-shaped heads are perfectly
adapted for 'swimming' through sand. Put these boas on sand
and watch them disappear in seconds!

Rosy
Boas
(Lichanura trivirgata roseofusca)
Limburg strain albino: A
California Coastal Locale
originating from a male collected
around Vail Lake in southern Temecula Valley, Riverside
County California.
|
|
These
small attractive boas are easy to maintain and feed. Rosy
boas tend to be quite docile and can be readily handled
once they have determined that you cannot be eaten,..LOL.
Pairs of Rosy boas can be adequately housed in 20-30 gallon
terrariums. There are numerous distinct loclaes of Rosy
boas as well as the standard recessive and double-recessive
morphs. Rosy boas make
ideal pets for beginners and good investments for savvy
breeders.
